Passport  (the fee is currently 137.05 AUD (cash only, no EFTPOS available)

The first prerequisite in obtaining an Italian Passport is HOLDING ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP for which we require evidence.

In order to apply for an Italian passport, Italian nationals residing abroad must be registered in the A.I.R.E. (Registry of Italian Citizens Residing Abroad) of an Italian municipality (this is done via the Italian diplomatic mission of your place of residence).

Italian citizens not residing in the State of Victoria may request the issue of their passport. However, the Consulate must first obtain a written authorization from the issuing office or authority of the passport holder’s place of residence (this may take up to 90 days).

A passport is both a travel and an identity document. It can be issued by the Passport Office of the Consulate in the State or Country of residence.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are an Australian resident and you hold an Italian passport that was released before August 14th 1992, you are required by law to prove that you have not become an Australian citizen prior to that specific date.

In this case, to obtain your Italian passport, you are required to bring a
-Certificate of Evidence of Residence Status (C.E.R.S.) issued by the Department of Immigration (2 Lonsdale Street - Melbourne. Tel 131881) that demonstrates that you have not naturalized as an Australian citizen prior to August 14th 1992.

From October 26, 2006, this Consulate General commenced issuing electronic passports, with a validity of 10 years.

Payments can only be made in cash and at the time of lodging the passport application.

ENTRY INTO OR TRANSIT THROUGH THE USA
Pursuant to an EU decision, the new passport, will make entry into the US easier. Minor children can benefit from this only if they have their own passport, given that registration on their parent’s passport is not sufficient.
