1 ) NON-EU citizens travelling to one of the above-mentioned countries may
be granted a short stay visa from 1 to 90 days, which is valid for
all the countries above.
2) There is no such thing as legal entitlement to a visa.
3) Visas must be applied for from the Visa Section of the country of main destination, based on the purpose of the journey and the length of stay. If your main destination cannot be ascertained, your visa is a responsibility of the Schengen country you first enter.
4) Required documents differ according to the purpose of your journey and additional documents/details may be required.
5) Furthermore, you must possess a valid Residence Permit for Australia stamped on your passport. If you wish to apply for a visa, YOU MUST BE RESIDENT IN AUSTRALIA AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION; your permit, issued by the Dept. of Immigration, must be either INDEFINITE or valid at least three months beyond the expiry date of the visa you are requesting. If you do not qualify, this Consulate is unable to grant you a visa for Italy and YOU NEED TO REQUEST YOUR VISA IN YOUR COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE.
6) Other types of visa (airport-transit, medical treatment, visa for longer stay and visa for taking up employment) are subject to the national legislation of the country of destination.
7) A Schengen visa allows its holder to move freely in all the above-mentioned countries for the entire validity of the visa. To obtain this type of visa you need to be holding a passport or travel document that is a) recognized by all the Schengen countries and b) valid at least three months beyond the validity of the visa you are seeking. If your passport or travel document is valid only for certain Schengen countries, then the validity of your visa will be restricted to those.
